My Take

Alan Carr is the kind of comedian I trust, the one who disarms a room rather than dominating it. Born in Weymouth and a late-ish bloomer who broke through in 2001 after winning newcomer prizes, he turned stand-up reflexes into a warm, mischievous chat-show presence. What I value is his register: he teases without cruelty and always leaves his guests slightly more loved than he found them. Plenty of comics chase shock or scorn; Carr gets his laughs from generosity and self-deprecation, and that, to me, is a much harder and more durable trick to pull off on live television.
