My Take
What strikes me about Anita Dobson is her refusal to stay in one lane. Most actors who land an iconic soap role spend a career chasing or escaping it, but she turned Angie Watts into a launchpad, even charting a top-five single off the EastEnders theme. That is a rare instinct for seizing a cultural moment. Her return for the 2025 anniversary tells me the role and the woman both still resonate, decades on. I admire performers who can be both beloved and unpredictable, and from Stepney in London she built exactly that kind of durable, surprising career.
