My Take

Babette Bardot fascinates me precisely because the record is thin. A stage name nodding to Brigitte Bardot, a run in Russ Meyer's cult films, then a 1968 pivot to touring the United States as a burlesque dancer under her husband-manager Bob Baker. Reportedly Swedish, she crossed an ocean to make a career on her own terms. I'm drawn to the unglamorous reality behind the glamour: the endless road, the nightly shows, the partnership that kept it running. Footnotes in someone else's filmography can hide whole lives.
