My Take
Cha Tae-hyun is one of those rare performers who can make you laugh until you cry and then flip the script on you with something quietly moving, and I don't think he gets nearly enough credit for that range outside of Korea. My Sassy Girl (2001) is legitimately one of the best rom-coms to ever come out of Asia, and his ability to play the put-upon everyman with total sincerity is what made it work. Scandal Makers and Hello Ghost showed he could carry a crowd-pleasing comedy on his back year after year, and Along with the Gods proved he could hold his own in a massive fantasy epic. The fact that he also DJs, sings, and has stepped behind the camera makes him one of Korean entertainment's true all-rounders — a guy who clearly just loves the craft in every form it comes in.
