Jack Lowden

Jack Lowden is one of those actors who quietly built an unassailable foundation on stage before the screen world caught up with him — and when it did, boy did it catch up fast. His turn in War & Peace got people talking, but it's Slow Horses where he really owns a room: playing River Cartwright as this perpetually underestimated, slightly scruffy idealist surrounded by cynics, he brings genuine warmth and frustration to every scene without ever tipping into melodrama. Winning a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor is no small thing — that's a peer institution telling you you're the real deal — and honestly, watching him you feel it. He's a proper stage-trained actor doing screen work, and the difference shows. I'm genuinely excited to see where he goes from here.
