My Take

Magennis is my favorite kind of footballer, the one with an unorthodox path. A towering 188 cm striker from Bangor in Northern Ireland, he spent his youth as a goalkeeper before switching to the complete opposite end of the pitch in 2008, a gutsy reinvention that few players would dare. That he went on to earn full international caps shows the gamble paid off. I am drawn to players who lead with physical commitment and grit rather than polish, and there is something easy to root for in a big man who simply throws himself at the game.

Overview

Joshua Brendan David Magennis (born 15 August 1990) is a Northern Irish footballer who most recently played as a striker for EFL League Two club Exeter City and the Northern Ireland national team. Having spent the majority of his youth career as a goalkeeper, he switched to striker in 2008 before turning professional in 2009.
