Lorraine Ashbourne

Lorraine Ashbourne strikes me as the kind of grounded, locally-rooted British actor the industry quietly depends on. Born in Manchester, she came up through the University of Manchester Stage Society and Manchester Youth Theatre before drama school, and there is something admirable about that steadiness. I tend to value performers like her, who reinforce a production from the supporting ranks rather than chasing the spotlight. To me, she represents the unglamorous craftsmanship that makes ensembles believable, and that is precisely why she deserves more recognition than she gets.
