Lou de Laâge

Lou de Laâge strikes me as one of the most quietly compelling actors in French cinema. Two César nominations for Jappeloup and Respire, plus the 2016 Prix Romy Schneider, mark her as talent France has deliberately bet on for its future. I am drawn to the European tradition she works in: not Hollywood spectacle, but the patient layering of small, precise emotions. There is something fitting about a Bordeaux native whose performances feel like they deepen with age, like good wine. I love actors who land softly but stay with you, and I fully intend to keep following where she goes.
