My Take

Of all of Pink Floyd, Nick Mason is the one I respect most quietly. He is the only constant member since 1965, the only one on every album, the steady pulse beneath Echoes and Time. Drummers rarely get the glory that goes to the writers and frontmen, yet the architecture of those records rests on his timing. What moves me is that, decades on and with a CBE to his name, he still tours with Saucerful of Secrets playing the early material for the sheer joy of it. That undimmed love of playing is, to me, the truest kind of musicianship.
