My Take

Park Chan-yong is the sort of footballer I quietly root for. Born in 1996 and playing for the storied Pohang Steelers, he came up the unglamorous way, through a vocational high school and Daegu University rather than an early academy spotlight. The K League is a brutally competitive environment, and simply surviving at a club with Pohang's pedigree earns my respect. I have always been drawn to dependable, structure-first players who hold a team together rather than the flashy scorers who grab headlines. Park reads to me as exactly that kind of grafter, and I find that quietly admirable.
