Robin Yalcin is the kind of footballer I quietly admire. Born in Deggendorf in Lower Bavaria yet plying his trade for a Turkish club, he embodies the dual identity so many modern players carry. As a defensive midfielder he does the unglamorous work, breaking up play and protecting the back line, the sort of role that never trends but always matters. At 183 cm he has the frame for it.
