My Take
What I love about Stephen Mangan is how effortlessly he marries intelligence with comic panic. Whether he is the smug doctor in Green Wing or the harried writer in Episodes, he plays men just barely losing control with a manic charm few can match. Yet that 2009 Theatre World Special Award reminds me there is a serious stage craftsman under the comedy, and even his voice work on Postman Pat shows real range. British actors who can be this funny without ever seeming dim are rare, and Mangan is one I quietly keep watching.
