My Take
Zinedine Zidane is, without question, one of the most hypnotic footballers who ever lived — and I say that as someone who has watched a lot of football. There was something almost unfair about the way he moved with the ball: that low center of gravity, the shoulder feints, the Marseille turn pulled off at full pace against defenders who knew it was coming and still couldn't stop it. Winning the 1998 World Cup on home soil with a brace of headers, being named FIFA World Player of the Year three times, and delivering that Champions League final overhead kick for Real Madrid in 2002 — the highlights reel basically writes itself. And then there's the 2006 World Cup final headbutt, which somehow only adds to the mythology rather than undoing it. As a manager he won three consecutive Champions League titles with Real Madrid, which is absurd. Zizou is just built different.
