My Take

I have a soft spot for centre-backs like Abdelhamid El Kaoutari, and he strikes me as exactly that breed of unsung defender who does the dirty work so the forwards can take the glory. Coming out of Montpellier with North African roots, he carries the kind of layered identity that southern French football has long thrived on. At 180 cm he is not towering, which tells me he relied on reading the game rather than raw physicality.
