Alex Greenwood

I have a soft spot for defenders who lead by reading the game rather than shouting, and Alex Greenwood strikes me as exactly that kind of player. Captaining Manchester City and anchoring England's backline at 167 cm tells you everything: this is positioning, timing, and nerve over raw size. I suspect it is grit that lets her switch between centre-back and left-back without losing her edge. To me she is one of those quietly essential players whose value only fully shows when she is missing from the lineup.
