My Take

Alison Arngrim earned something rare: immortality through villainy. As Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, she made audiences love to hate her, which takes far more skill than playing the sweetheart. What elevates her for me, though, is her second act. Rather than fading after her child-star years, she became an autobiographer and advocate, candidly turning her own experiences into something useful for others. That arc, from a deliciously wicked kid actor to an honest, purpose-driven adult, is what I find most admirable. A New Yorker raised through Hollywood High, she has substance well beyond the role that made her famous.
