AURORA

I genuinely think Aurora Aksnes is one of the most singular voices to come out of the past decade, and the fact that she's still somehow undersold in mainstream conversation baffles me. She grew up in the coastal quiet of western Norway, started writing songs at six, and you can hear that untamed, almost-wild interiority in everything she makes — her voice cuts through like cold North Sea air. The "Fairy of Pop" nickname people threw at her isn't just cute branding; there's something genuinely otherworldly in how she builds a song. Multiple Spellemann Awards, her music landing in major TV shows and commercials, yet she's never felt like a product. That's rare. I'll always have time for an artist who sounds like they're performing a private ritual and just happened to let the rest of us watch.
