My Take

Bruce Spence has one of those faces and frames you never forget, and Australian cinema put it to brilliant use. To me he'll always be the Gyro Captain from Mad Max 2, a gangly, manic presence that helped define that film's anarchic energy, and he later returned to the franchise in a different role. Over 100 screen credits across film, TV, and theatre is a serious working life. Born in Auckland but built in Australia, he's the kind of distinctive character actor a national industry treasures. He never needed to be the lead; he just needed a few minutes to make a scene unmistakably his.
