Bun Hay Mean

Bun Hay Mean fascinates me as a comedian who turned his own identity into his sharpest material. Working in France under the persona of the funny Chinese man, he confronted stereotypes head-on and flipped them into something disarming and smart. That takes both courage and real intelligence; self-deprecation as cultural commentary is a high-wire act. His death in 2025 felt far too soon for a talent still mid-stride. I have deep respect for performers who spend their lives making rooms full of strangers laugh, and the warmth he left behind is the kind that genuinely endures.
