Byun Yo-han

Byun Yo-han is the sort of actor Korean drama devotees come to trust. Trained at the Korea National University of Arts and breaking through in Misaeng, he solidified his reputation with Six Flying Dragons and Mr. Sunshine. What I respect is his refusal to coast on idol-style appeal; he works from the inside of a character, letting things surface slowly rather than performing for the camera. Whether in sageuk like Hansan and The Book of Fish or contemporary roles, he disappears into the part. That craftsman's instinct, prizing the work over visibility, is exactly why I rate him as one of the steadier talents around.
