Cerys Matthews

Cerys Matthews is, to me, one of Britain's most genuinely creative figures. As a founding member of Catatonia and a driving voice of the late-90s Cool Cymru movement, she gave Welsh music a confident global presence, and that husky, commanding voice won me over instantly. What I admire even more is her refusal to stand still: singer, author, broadcaster, journalist, and an MBE recipient by 2014. Reinventing your platform again and again, without losing your identity, is rare. She carries Welsh language and culture into wider audiences with real conviction. I find her artistic restlessness genuinely inspiring rather than scattered.
