My Take

Charlotte Lewis is impossible to discuss for me without splitting the screen image from the real person. The English actress is best remembered as Kee Nang in 1986's The Golden Child, and her early fame leaned heavily on her looks. But what genuinely earns my respect is that she later spoke out publicly about abuse in the industry, which takes far more nerve than any glamour shot. It's easy to file beautiful actors under decorative. She refused that box and put her name to hard words. Knowing that, I watch her old work with a different, more careful eye.
