My Take
Christian Bale fascinates me because he treats his own body as a set to be built and demolished. The drastic physical transformations get the headlines, but I think they are symptoms of something deeper: a refusal to let any visible trace of himself survive into the role. His Academy Award for The Fighter rewarded exactly that disappearance. What I respect most is that he took the credibility earned in character work and spent it headlining Batman without ever seeming compromised — the rare actor who can carry a blockbuster and still feel dangerous. He may be the last of the full-immersion school, and cinema is richer for it.
