My Take

Christian Berndt is not the sort of name that trends, and that is precisely why I wanted to write about him. A geologist, geophysicist, and marine scientist who teaches, he belongs to a community that spends weeks at sea probing seabed methane and crustal movement so the rest of us never have to think about it. There is a particular heroism in that patience, in slowly decoding how the planet actually works.
