My Take

Connor Roberts is the sort of player I find quietly admirable. A Welsh international right-back at Burnley, he is not the name on the highlight reel, but he is the engine that keeps the flank functioning. At 173 cm he wins through work rate, timing and tenacity rather than raw size. Full-backs do the unglamorous labor of modern football, defending one minute and overlapping the next, and Roberts does it without fuss. I tend to value the players who make a team coherent over the ones who merely make it spectacular, and on that scale he earns real respect from me.
