My Take
I've got a soft spot for Aimi Kobayashi, and honestly it's the quiet that gets me. She's been a name since she was a kid prodigy out of Ube in Yamaguchi, sharpened up through Toho, and grew into one of those pianists you really associate with Chopin and the Warsaw competition circuit. What kills me is the contrast: she's small and unflashy, not the type to grin and work the room, but the second her hands hit the keys there's this steel underneath. I love that she trusts the soft notes as much as the loud ones, letting a phrase nearly vanish instead of pounding it home. The playing says everything. I just shut up and listen.
