Courtney Lawes

Courtney Lawes is the kind of player I never tire of watching. Standing 2.00 m, the Hackney-born, Northampton-raised Englishman has spent his career as a flanker and lock who hits like a collapsing wall, his tackling a thing of brutal precision. There is a lovely contrast between the softness of the name Courtney and the sheer ferocity of his play. That he is still grinding it out, now with Sale Sharks after two seasons at Brive, long past the age many retire, tells you everything about his appetite for the hard yards. I deeply admire athletes who keep choosing the bruising work.
