My Take

Dele Alli fascinates me as both a footballer and an ultimately hopeful human story. At his peak, his late runs into the box made him one of the most instinctive attacking midfielders England had produced in years — a kid from Milton Keynes who broke into senior football as a teenager. What earns my deeper respect, though, is the honesty he has shown about his personal struggles since. Plenty of athletes hide behind polished statements; he chose vulnerability, and I think that took more courage than any cup final. Born in 1996, he still has time, and I find myself genuinely rooting for whatever his second act turns out to be.
