Duffy

Duffy fascinates me precisely because she chose to step away. Rockferry arrived in 2008 with a voice so rich and weathered it felt borrowed from another era, and she conquered the charts almost instantly. Then she largely vanished. Where others would have chased the moment, she protected something more fragile. I find a strange integrity in that retreat, and the silence has, if anything, preserved the purity of that voice in my memory. Coming from small Bangor in Wales, she always seemed too genuine for the machine. If she never records again, Rockferry alone is enough to admire.
