My Take

Eun Ji-won is one of those figures who doesn't get nearly enough credit outside of Korea, and honestly that's a shame. As the leader of Sechs Kies — one of the original first-generation idol groups that were literally building K-pop before anyone called it K-pop — he was pushing hip-hop energy into a scene that mostly wanted clean pop, and that took guts. Born in the States, educated in Hawaii, then planting himself firmly in the Korean entertainment world as a rapper, singer, actor, and songwriter: the guy has always moved on his own terms. The fact that Sechs Kies reunited decades later and still packed arenas tells you everything about how deep that bond with fans runs. I respect the longevity more than almost anything else here.
