My Take
Hugh Grant interests me far more now than he did in his heartthrob prime. The stammering charmer of the nineties — the one who swept the BAFTA and Golden Globe in 1995 — was delightful, but it took real nerve to dismantle that persona. His pivot into vain, venal character roles is one of the great second acts in modern acting, and you can feel his relief in every sneer. An Oxford intellect was always lurking under the floppy hair; age finally gave him permission to use it. Few actors have aged this gracefully by becoming this gleefully ungraceful.
