My Take

Josua Mejías intrigues me less for any single match than for the geography of his career. A centre-back born in Valencia, Venezuela who ended up anchoring a defence for Debrecen in Hungary made a genuinely bold choice. Moving from South America to Eastern Europe, far from the marquee leagues, demands real conviction and adaptability. I imagine him as a reader of the game rather than a pure athlete, a defender who survives on positioning and nerve in unfamiliar surroundings. I have a soft spot for these footballing migrants who plant themselves in foreign soil and simply get on with the unglamorous job of defending.
