My Take
Julie Delpy is one of the most complete artists in modern cinema, and I don't say that lightly. Most people know her from the Before trilogy, where her improvisational honesty made those conversations feel almost dangerously real. But she also writes, directs and composes, earning a National Society of Film Critics screenplay award and the Officer rank of the Order of Arts and Letters. I'm drawn to her refusal to be just a muse; she insisted on authorship in an industry that rarely hands it to women. Watching her work, you sense a restless intelligence that's never content to merely be looked at.
