A girl born in Maebaru (now Itoshima), Fukuoka Prefecture, found herself, almost before she knew it, smiling at the very center of the country's biggest idol group. You never know where life will turn, and Mariko Shinoda's career embodies that line exactly.

Mariko Shinoda was born on March 11, 1986, in Maebaru, Fukuoka Prefecture. After Fukuoka Prefectural Itoshima High School she auditioned for AKB48's first generation in 2005 and was cut in the final round, but while working at the café inside the AKB48 Theater she was invited by Yasushi Akimoto to join as a full member.
That path was never guaranteed, which is exactly why a sense of "you never know where life will take you" suits her story so well. Going from theater café worker to the center of the group is, in itself, a story worth telling.
An Idol With Grown-Up Poise
