My Take
Şahan fascinates me less for his wing play than for his choice. Born and raised in Düsseldorf, he opted to represent Turkey, and that decision is really an identity statement dressed up as a roster move. Children of immigrants who pull on their ancestral jersey are negotiating something deeper than a transfer market. As a winger and attacking midfielder he had the licence to be creative, and I suspect that same comfort with ambiguity served him well. Now coaching, he carries two cultures in his coaching vocabulary, and that kind of bilingual football brain is exactly what I find compelling.
