My Take
Pat Shortt fascinates me because he refuses to be boxed in. The same performer who had audiences roaring as Tom in Father Ted turned around and won the IFTA for Best Actor in the quiet, aching film Garage. That range, comedy and pathos in equal measure, is something very few actors actually possess. I suspect his finely tuned comic timing is exactly what gives his dramatic stillness such weight. Add his work as a writer and producer, and you have a true all-rounder. To me, this Tipperary native is one of Ireland's most quietly versatile talents.
