Phil Soussan

Phil Soussan earns my unreserved respect as a musician's musician. Playing bass for Ozzy Osbourne alone would be a career, but he also held down Last in Line, the Vince Neil Band and Big Noize, then wrote and produced for Dokken and Toto. That blend of stage presence and behind-the-board craft is rare. Born in London in 1961, he has stayed relevant for decades. I confess I am drawn less to flashy frontmen and more to the players who hold a song together from the bottom up. Soussan is exactly that kind of artist, the steady foundation beneath the spotlight.
