Rachel Goswell

As a longtime admirer of shoegaze, I have a soft spot for Rachel Goswell. Her voice in Slowdive drifts through those vast walls of guitar like mist, pulling the listener somewhere distant and weightless. What I respect most is her refusal to chase trends; from 1989 onward she has stayed true to a singular aesthetic, detouring into Mojave 3's folk-rock before Slowdive's celebrated reunion. There is real quiet conviction in an artist who simply keeps doing the thing only she can do. Goswell embodies the idea that understated, principled music ages best, and I am glad she remains active.
