Rick Wills

Rick Wills is the kind of musician I instinctively admire, the dependable craftsman behind the low end. Best known for Foreigner, he also lent his bass to Small Faces, Roxy Music, Peter Frampton, David Gilmour and Bad Company, an almost absurd resume of trust. What interests me is the temperament that role demands, the willingness to build the foundation rather than chase the spotlight. Bassists like Wills rarely get the credit, yet they are exactly why the records feel solid. I think the history of rock is quietly written by people like him, and he deserves a louder thank-you.
