Rollo Armstrong

Rollo Armstrong is one of those figures whose influence outweighs his public profile, and I find that fascinating. As a founding, non-touring member of Faithless and the studio brain behind countless productions, he shaped a huge slice of 1990s dance music without needing the spotlight. The York-educated craftsman has lifted records for his sister Dido, Pet Shop Boys and Simply Red, which speaks to real range. To me he embodies the producer's ideal: someone who loves the sound itself more than the applause, content to make others shine while quietly defining an era.
