My Take
Russ Ballard is one of those figures I find endlessly fascinating: a man whose songs you almost certainly know even if his name doesn't ring a bell. Rising first as the voice of Argent, he quietly became one of rock's most reliable songwriters and producers. What draws me to him is that instinct to step back from the spotlight and build hits for others. There's a craftsman's humility there that I deeply respect. In an era obsessed with the performer, Ballard reminds me that the writer behind the song often holds the real magic.
