Ruth Sheen

Ruth Sheen belongs to a rare breed of actor I deeply admire: one who disappears so completely into a role that you forget you are watching a performance. Her European Film Award for High Hopes felt like recognition not of glamour but of truthfulness, the kind of grounded, working-class humanity that Mike Leigh's films demand. I value how she built a career on stage craft rather than celebrity, letting the work speak. There is something quietly heroic about an actor who never chases the spotlight yet earns lasting respect. To me, performers like Sheen are exactly why British cinema stays so trustworthy.
