My Take

For my generation Samy Naceri is forever the maniac cabbie of the Taxi films, but reducing him to that does him a disservice. A Paris-born actor of Algerian descent, he shared the Best Actor prize at Cannes in 2006, proof there's real range behind the high-octane persona. His off-screen life has been turbulent, and I won't pretend otherwise, yet that same volatility is part of what makes his performances crackle. He brings an unstable, lived-in intensity that many polished actors simply can't fake. I find him compelling precisely because he never feels safe on screen.
