My Take
Shankar Mahadevan strikes me as the rare artist who is both technically dazzling and deeply rooted. As one third of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy he helped define a whole era of Indian film music, and his voice carries a warmth that survives any arrangement. What impresses me most is the breadth: singer, composer, performer, decorated with a National Film Award, a Padma Shri, even an honorary doctorate from Birmingham. That last detail says his influence travels well beyond India. I see a musician who treats his gift as both art and craft, and that balance is exactly why his work endures.
