My Take

Shim Eun-kyung is one of the most fearless actors I follow. Breaking out in Sunny and Miss Granny was impressive enough, but then she crossed into Japanese-language work and won Best Actress at the Japan Academy Film Prize as the first Korean to do so. Acting convincingly in a second language and winning the country's top honor takes extraordinary nerve and skill. What I admire most is her range: she can make you laugh and break your heart within the same scene. I hope she keeps ignoring borders and chasing roles that scare her.
