My Take

Thomas has the underdog arc I can never resist. Released by West Ham's academy at 16 and dropping all the way to non-league Boreham Wood, he could easily have faded, yet he clawed his way to Huddersfield, then on to the Championship and the Wales national team as a winger. That kind of detour usually breaks young players; instead it seems to have hardened him. I find more to admire in a footballer who was once told no and kept running than in someone handed an easy ascent. He still has plenty of career ahead, and I'll happily follow where this grafter's story goes.

Overview

Benjamin Sorba William Thomas (born 25 January 1999) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for EFL Championship club Stoke City and the Wales national team. After leaving the West Ham United Academy at 16, Thomas played for National League side Boreham Wood until he was signed by Championship side Huddersfield Town in January 2021.
