Elly Akira

What gets me about Elly Akira is the pivot. She made her name in front of the camera in the adult world, then somehow ended up behind one as a photographer, and honestly that's a move I find endlessly cool. Going from the person being looked at to the person deciding how things get looked at takes a kind of confidence you can't fake, and I figure nobody understands the gaze better than someone who's lived on both sides of it. Small in stature, big on reinventing herself, refusing to be boxed into one label. I just respect people who keep changing the room they create in.
