My Take

For me Stephen Moyer will always be Bill Compton, the brooding vampire of True Blood, a role that needed equal parts menace and melancholy and got exactly that. An Essex-born stage actor who crossed the Atlantic, anchored an American hit, and walked off with a Saturn Award, he's the sort of dependable British leading man I'm a sucker for. I like that he kept the surname Moyer over his real name Emery and made it his own, and that he's since moved into directing. Knowing a production from both sides of the camera tends to give an actor a grounded, unhurried presence, and he has it.
