What I admire most about Taika Waititi is his refusal to treat comedy and tragedy as separate rooms. Jojo Rabbit could have collapsed under its own audacity, yet he balanced satire and grief so deftly that the Academy handed him the Adapted Screenplay Oscar. He also rescued the Thor franchise by simply letting it be funny, which sounds easy and absolutely is not.
