My Take

Valerio Fiori embodies the unglamorous nobility I love about goalkeeping. Born in Rome and standing 182 cm, he spent a long career alone at the back, concentrating while everyone else celebrated, and has since turned that hard-won knowledge into a coaching role with Genoa. There's something fitting about a keeper becoming a goalkeeping coach: it's a craft passed hand to hand, instinct and positioning taught to the next custodian. To master the most thankless position in a country obsessed with defending is no small thing. Fiori was never a headline name, but it's exactly these quiet specialists I most want to applaud.
